Overview of Current and Emerging Therapies in Androgenetic Alopecia

A comprehensive expert review published in EMJ Dermatology (November 2024) discusses the evolving landscape of treatments for androgenetic alopecia, the most common form of hair loss in men and women.

The article describes how traditional treatments such as anti‑androgen therapies, topical minoxidil and oral finasteride remain standard options, while newer avenues including RNA‑based targeting such as self‑assembled micelle inhibitory RNA (SAMiRNA), advanced small molecules, regenerative approaches and other innovative modalities are under investigation.

Among these, CosmeRNA ARI, which utilises the SAMiRNA technology, is highlighted as a promising RNA‑based topical approach to androgen receptor modulation in AGA.

Leading clinicians interviewed in the review emphasise the importance of a personalised approach to care and the potential of emerging therapies to expand options for individuals who may not adequately respond to existing treatments.
